Burglary in Duren Sawit

JAKARTA (JP): Five men robbed a house in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, on Monday and made off with items worth at least Rp 40 million (US$16,666), police said.

City Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said yesterday the five men had threatened Capter Siahaan and his family with a gun and machetes.

"One of the five men told the family that he was a relative so they let them all in," Aritonang said.

The burglary at Capter's house occurred at 9 a.m. when most of family were home.

Aritonang said the five men made off with electronic goods, Rp 5 million and 200 grams of gold and diamond jewelry.

The criminals, who it is believed escaped in a brown Toyota Kijang van, tied up Capter's family with plastic rope in the living room, Aritonang added.

Capter's wife was forced to open the safe where she kept the money and jewelry. (cst)
