Burglars make off with Rp25m goods
JAKARTA (JP): Five burglars threatened to stab an office boy working at an electronics shop in Central Jakarta before stealing Rp 20 million worth of goods yesterday.
A sergeant at the Central Jakarta Police precinct said the burglars had arrived in a Kijang minivan at 11:30 a.m. outside the shop on Jl. Taman Batang Hari, Tanah Abang.
"The burglars noisily broke the lock on a rolling door," he said.
Affandi, the office boy, went to see what had caused the noise. When he found the burglars, one of them pointed a sword and threatened to kill him if he shouted or resisted.
They tied up Affandi with a rope and put a plaster on his mouth.
The burglars smashed the shop's windows before making their getaway.
The sergeant said Toni Sugianto, the shop's owner, had untied Affandi before reporting the burglary to the Tanah Abang Police subprecinct.
Toni had gone to check the shop which was closed for the day.
In another robbery over the weekend, burglars smashed through the back wall of Gloria Department Store on Jl. Pasar Kembang, Central Jakarta, and stole Rp 5 million worth of cash and goods.
The sergeant said police assumed the robbery had occurred Saturday night.
He said the store's supervisor, Ade Kartika Sari, had arrived at the store yesterday at 11 a.m. and found the hole in the wall and the money and merchandise missing. (jun)
