Burglar arrested for stealing TV
JAKARTA (JP): A construction worker was arrested on Saturday for breaking into a house belonging to one of The Jakarta Post's photographers in Sunter, North Jakarta, on the previous day.
The suspect, identified as Wantu, was believed to be familiar with the house because he helped to build it two years ago.
The photographer, I.G.G.P. Bayu Ismoyo, said Wantu only stole a 14-inch color television set.
"Wantu confessed to police that he had stolen the television and said he did it to get money to pay his rent," Bayu said on Saturday.
He said the thief ignored many valuable items in the house, including cameras, a stereo and cash.
Wantu, who was arrested in the nearby Kampong Bentengan, is being detained at the Tanjung Priok police subprecinct.
"The police took less than 24 hours to catch Wantu," Bayu said. (emf)
