Bun Yamin nominated for autonomy board

JAKARTA (JP): City Council on Friday elected Bun Yamin Ramto as the city's candidate for the membership at the Regional Autonomy Advisory Board, whose members will be elected in the upcoming National Consultative Forum next week.

Bun Yamin, a former deputy governor on economics and development from 1984 to 1988, is currently an expert staffer at the Institute for Strategic Studies of Indonesia (LPSI) and a lecturer at the National Resilience Institute. He is also a professor for government affairs at Padjadjaran University's School of Social and Political Sciences in Bandung.

Bun Yamin will compete with 25 other provincial candidates to win two chairs on the advisory board.

The Regional Autonomy Advisory Board will be presided over by the Minister of Home Affairs, while Finance Minister and State Minister for Regional Autonomy will act as deputies to the chairman. Defense Minister, State Minister for State Administrative Reform and State Secretary will become board members, along with members of the Association of Regional Governments and regional representatives. All members will serve on the advisory board for a two-year period.

The regional representatives will include two provincial members, two representatives from regencies and two representatives from mayoralties.

Advisory board members will report directly to the President and give considerations to the President on regional issues and assessing the readiness of the provinces to implement their authorized duties for the upcoming regional autonomy. (06)
