Building for witness protection

JAKARTA (JP): City police chief Maj. Gen. Nurfaizi officially opened a two-story building at city police headquarters on Tuesday to be used as a shelter for witnesses under police protection.

"This is an effort to give police protection to witnesses in our first official witness protection program. Four similar buildings will soon be established in the capital as well," Nurfaizi told reporters.

The building, which comprises bedrooms and bathrooms, will be watched around the clock by officers on duty, Nurfaizi said.

"I invite city residents who are honest but fear their lives might be in danger if they opened up, to help me solve crimes. I will offer them protection," Nurfaizi said. (ylt)
