Two illegal miners found dead: Two illegal miners were found dead late on Wednesday at the Pongkor Mountain gold mine, operated by state gold and nickel miner PT Aneka Tambang (Antam), in Nanggung district, Bogor regency. The victims, identified as Maman, 22, and Uhay, 30, allegedly died of asphyxiation. Other illegal miners said that the two entered the shaft they had dug on Wednesday afternoon to look for gold. The shaft had been closed by Antam as there was scarcely any gold at the location. Earlier this month, 13 illegal miners died of asphyxiation from black smoke inside a shaft they had dug themselves to connect with the mine. The police are still investigating the cause of the smoke as some illegal miners suspected that certain people had intentionally burned tires to force them out. -- JP
