BTC construction to begin in May

JAKARTA: Contractor PT Gapura Intiutama will begin construction on the Bekasi Trade Center (BTC) worth Rp 50 billion (US$4.8 million) in May this year and is expected to be finished one year later.

The center, meant to be an alternative shopping and recreational mall, will be built on a 23,000 hectare lot in East Bekasi, 14,000 hectares of which will be leased for 20 years at a price of Rp 15 million per square meter.

PT Gapura Intiutama technical director, Dedi Setiadi, said he is targeting former bank employees who were laid off and received allowances of between Rp 100 and 200 million.

"We can offer them kiosks with a minimal price of Rp 65 million," he said as quoted by Antara, adding that so far the company has leased 20 percent of the total space available.

Dedi said BTC, the only one in East Bekasi, would also be a supporting facility for the increasing number of industrial factories in East Bekasi. -- JP
