BSD gets REI award for environment

TANGERANG: The Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) housing complex in Tangerang, Banten, has won an Indonesian Real Estate Association (REI) award for environmental management.

BSD's president Budiarsa Sastrawinata said on Wednesday the award, presented last week during REI's national gathering, was based on environmental facilities installed by the developer, for garbage and waste-water processing.

"The facilities could still be feasible for the next 10 years," Budiarsa said.

He said the garbage generated by the 60,000 residents living in the complex, was separated into organic and nonorganic wastes.

The organic trash was then taken to the plant to be processed as organic fertilizer while the nonorganic trash was recycled, he said.

The award was also based on public parks which were provided in the grounds of the housing complex, he said.--JP
