Brunei Scouts gives aid to tsunami victims

JAKARTA: The scouts movement of Brunei Darussalam donated food and clothing on Thursday for survivors of the Dec. 26 tsunami.

The aid was handed over by Brunei leader Zainal Abidin to the Indonesian Scouts Movement head Azrul Anwar at the Aceh Scouts headquarters in Banda Aceh, spokeswoman Setembri Yanti said.

The aid, which is being pooled Medan, consists of 13 containers of clothes and blankets, 1,000 units of food rations for children and 1,000 packages of utensils.

"We are still collecting more aid and raising funds for the victims. I expect they will be handed over by February," Zainal said.

Zainal and four other Brunei Scouts officials visited a displaced persons camp where Indonesian scouts ran activities for children before heading to Ulee Lheu beach, which was decimated by the tsunami. --JP
