Bruins beat Oilers in NHL action

Brian Rolston scored a pair of goals and Glen Murray added a goal and two assists as the red-hot Boston Bruins rolled over the Edmonton Oilers 6-1 in National Hockey League action on Monday night.

The Bruins (9-2-2-1) won for the fourth time in five games and improved to 9-1-2-1 after losing its season opener as it remained the hottest team in the NHL.

Rob Zamuner, Bryan Berard and Jonathan Girard scored the other Boston goals, while Joe Thornton and P.J. Axelsson both added two assists to the Boston attack.

Ethan Moreau scored the lone goals for Edmonton (4-7-3-1), which lost for the third time in four games.

John Grahame made 20 saves in goal for Boston before a matinee crowd of just 11,123 fans at the Fleet Center.

In Atlanta, Pasi Nurminen made 31 saves as the suddenly-hot Thrashers downed the Calgary Flames 2-1.

Patrik Stefan and Frantisek Kaberle scored the goals for the Thrashers, who are 3-1-1 after starting the season 0-8-0-1.

Chris Clark scored the lone goal for Calgary in the third period. The Flames had gone a franchise-record 192 minutes, 42 seconds without a goal over four games.

In Phoenix, Dave Andreychuk scored his 249th career power play goal to tie Phil Esposito on the all-time list as the Tampa Bay Lightning edged the Phoenix Coyotes 4-2.

Andreychuk also now has 598 goals, leaving him just two shy of becoming the 14th NHL player to reach 600 goals.

Fredrik Modin, Andre Roy and Stan Neckar scored the other Tampa Bay goals on Brian Boucher, who was pulled after allowing four goals on just 13 shots.

The Lightning are 9-4-2-1 to start the season, Tony Amonte and Daniel Briere scored the goals for Phoenix (6-9-0-1).

Coyotes captain Teppo Numminen left in the first period with an ankle injury and did not return.

In Sunrise, Florida, Jay Bouwmeester's first goal of the season, a powerplay goal with less than nine minutes to play in regulation time, gave the Panthers a 2-2 tie with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Olli Jokinen had the other goal for the Panthers (6-6-2-2), just 2:55 into the first period on Jocelyn Thibault.

Steve Sullivan and Igor Korolev scored the goals for Chicago (8-5-2-0).

In San Jose, Rem Murray scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to give the New York Rangers a 5-4 win over the Sharks.

Ronald Petrovicky, Brian Leetch and Ted Donato scored the other goals for New York (7-9-2-0).

Marco Sturm, Teemu Selanne, Mike Ricci and Patrick Marleau on a penalty shot with 10 minutes remaining in the third period, scored for San Jose (5-8-1-1). San Jose out-shot New York 37-27. Dan Blackburn made 33 saves for the Rangers.
