Brother's quarrel turns to fatal fight

JAKARTA: A quarrel between two brothers, both Philippine nationals, resulted in the death of the youngest brother, aged 21, early on Friday morning. He had been stabbed in the chest and his hands were badly cut.

The brother's mother, Bety, 50, told police investigators that the quarrel had erupted when big brother Philip Daud had wanted to use Josep Daud's computer.

Infuriated by Josep's refusal, Philip took a knife from the kitchen and attacked his brother.

Josep, who was unarmed, lost the fight and was taken to Ongko Mulyo Hospital for treatment. He died of blood loss.

Pulo Gadung Police chief Comr. Samsuri confirmed that the siblings were Philippine citizens.

"We knew it from their passports. They are using tourist visas," he told The Jakarta Post by phone.

He said that the police were detaining Philip as a suspect in the aggravated assault case. --JP
