Broken heart claims life

SEMARANG: A teenager was arrested on Tuesday in the Central Java regency of Jepara, some 45 kilometers north of here, for allegedly slaying a girl with whom he fell in love.

Jepara Police chief Lt. Col. Monang Manulang said the suspect, identified as 17-year-old Burhanuddin, struck Ning Ratna Suminar with an axe on Monday after finding the 16-year-old student had had a love affair with another boy.

"The suspect lost his temper when Ratna refused him. He took an axe from his home and struck Ratna's head," Monang said.

Ratna was rushed to Dr. Kariadi Hospital, but died while receiving medical treatment on the deep wound. (har)
