Broadcasting guidelines

From Bisnis Indonesia

On Aug. 30, the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) launched its broadcasting standards and guidelines. The KPI is an independent state institution, with the obligation to arrange matters pertaining to broadcasting.

The standards and guidelines stipulate do's and don'ts in the process of developing a program, and the content of television and radio programs. It is mandatory for every broadcasting institution to comply with these guidelines, and the KPI reserves the right to impose sanctions on any violators.

The standards and guidelines contains various stipulations and restrictions on various aspects of broadcasting, such as scenes that depict violence or feature victims of violence, reconstruct crime or exploit sex, scenes of rape, talk about sex, the use of rude words, supernatural programs, as well as protection of privacy, and foreign programs.

In this context, the KPI invites the public to help monitor the contents of programs and send to the commission their input, as well as complaints. As the 2002 Law on Broadcasting has mandated, the KPI receives the public's input and complaints over the contents of programs and follows these up.

Members of the public who wish to study the contents of the standards and guidelines may contact the KPI at this address:
