Broadcasting bill

From Media Indonesia

A law to regulate broadcasting is at present being debated in the House of Representatives. I suggest that the draft be made public by the print media so that it can be discussed by our intellectuals outside the legislature. Although intellectuals in Jakarta have already been invited to offer their opinions, our country is so big that the opinions of those outside Jakarta is warranted to make sure that the coming law will have weight and will be capable of anticipating national and global developments. The opinions of those intellectuals should be made public by the media.

I am making this suggestion because the law and its subsequent subordinate regulations will be one of the models that reveal our implementation of Pancasila Democracy. It would in fact be advisable that draft laws of any kind be made public so that intellectuals in Jakarta (without a formal request from the House of Representatives) and those living elsewhere can offer their ideas to improve laws that will be valid throughout Indonesia.
