Britain's strength

The continued debate on colonialism continues. When will these contributors get the message that Britain has nothing to be ashamed of? Colonialism was a past era but all ex-colonies of Britain thrive and advance.

Francesco clouds some valid points with obscene, rabid virulence such as this: "Hitler had ample opportunity to raze Britain but chose not to (more's the pity)". What an abominable comment. I assume the writer comes from a country which remembers only shame from World War II.

If Francesco is intent on listing a "hall of fame" why not add to the list all the many other countries mentioned, who can take pride in their efforts - what about Poland, Canada, Malta, etc.

He should be aware that we Brits are indeed nationalists. We have not been occupied since the Norman Invasion of 1066, and we take great pride in knowing that the "Battle of Britain," whether it was the turning point of the war or not, was a battle which saved our country.
