Britain safe for visitors

Your readers will know of the outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Britain. I would like to assure visitors that Britain is still open for business and holidaymakers. Humans cannot catch foot and mouth disease, and visitors to the UK are at no risk from the disease. There is no reason why people should not go to the UK. It is still a good place for a holiday.

Many of our visitors enjoy city shopping, the theater and arts and other London attractions such as The Tower of London, Madame Tussaud's, the National History Museum and the London Eye. Elsewhere there are castles, stately homes, historical places and cathedrals and theme parks, such as Alton towers. These are all open for business and visitors are welcome.

While there are some restrictions, there is no reason why people should not also enjoy rural Britain. Rural towns, villages, shops, pubs, churches, museums, galleries and historic buildings are open. Many of British Waterway's canals will be reopened next week for canal holidays. The public can walk safely on the roads and the nation's network of footpaths will gradually be reopened.
