Britain and Third Reich

The fact that Francesco's letter (Aug. 4) was prompted by "sheer boredom" -- an unusual source of motivation -- may explain its shabby sentiments. But it does not excuse them.

For the record, no country fought the Third Reich for longer than Britain, which stood alone for years before the USA decided to join in.

Anyone who relies, as Francesco does, on quotations from Adolf Hitler to support an argument is likely to end up on the losing side. But to comment "more's the pity" on Hitler's failure to raze Britain suggests that the author is a political loser.
