BRC to hold int'l event
PALANGKARAYA, Central Kalimantan: The Borneo Research Council (BRC) will begin a five-day international conference on human resources here Monday.
M. Usop, head of the conference's organizing committee, said yesterday that the BRC's fifth conference would focus on sustainable development of human resources.
"The main goal of the biannual meeting is to empower local people in development," Usop said.
The conference is to also feature Minister of Home Affairs Syarwan Hamid and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Alatas.
Human resource development will be discussed from socio- political, educational, economic, cultural and religious points of view.
Other topics, such as forest conservation and agricultural programs as well as biodiversity and traditional medicine, will also be taken up at the conference.
Some 250 participants from a number of countries, including Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Malaysia and Indonesia, are expected to attend the conference, Antara reported Tuesday. (rms)
