Brazilian man arrested for rape

DENPASAR, Bali (JP): Local police arrested a 22-year-old Brazilian man, identified only as CB, for rape.

Police spokesman Maj. Y. Suyatmo said here on Tuesday the victim was a 22-year-old Norwegian woman identified as J. Ch.

The Brazilian is now being detained at the Badung Police station, some 10 kilometers south of here, Suyatmo said.

According to the officer, the rape took place at around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday in the suspect's hotel room.

The woman met CB at Kuta beach on Saturday night, Suyatmo said.

"The woman agreed to go to the suspect's room for a drink and to talk. He asked her to have another drink, but when she refused he forced her to have sex with him," he said.

The Norwegian woman who is in Bali on vacation reported the rape soon after the suspect allowed her to leave his room, Suyatmo said. "The suspect was arrested in the afternoon." (50)
