Brazilian, Italian on trial for drugs

DENPASAR: A prosecutor asked the Denpasar District Court on Tuesday to sentence Rogerio Pencanha Paeza of Brazil to 13 years in jail for drug possession.

Prosecutor Sri Wahyuni asserted that the 47-year-old defendant should be jailed for 13 years after having been found in the possession of 143.8 grams of hashish and 41.3 grams of cocaine.

Rogerio denied possessing such large amounts of drugs. He admitted to having 3.8 grams of hashish and 2.1 grams of cocaine when he was arrested in a restaurant in Kuta on July 10 this year.

Also on Tuesday, the Denpasar District Court began the trial of Ivan Ferrari of Italy, who is charged with possessing 0.1 grams of cocaine. The 20-year-old was arrested on Aug. 20 this year. -- Antara
