BPN, Spain's CIMSA sign $22m contract

JAKARTA: The National Land Affairs Body (BPN) and Spanish company CIMSA have signed a commercial contract for the third phase of a land office computerization project that started in 1996, according to a release sent by the Embassy of Spain in Jakarta on Tuesday.

BPN chairman Lutfi Nasoetion, Ambassador of Spain to Indonesia Damaso de Lario and CIMSA chief executive officer Javier Ollero witnessed the signing during a ceremony that took place on Tuesday at BPN headquarters in Jakarta.

The project, which amounts to US$22 million, will be financed with Spanish funds pledged during the last Consultative Group for Indonesia (CGI) meeting held in Jakarta, according to the embassy.

The project will introduce all graphical and textual data from the archives at BPN offices in Jakarta into a computerized system.

CIMSA will also transfer the technology that enables BPN technical experts to replicate the system in any other area across the country.

In 2002, the embassy said, Spain disbursed $7.31 million to finance three projects in Indonesia related to education, health and institutional building. -- JP
