Boy's dream team to challenge Masters

JAKARTA (JP): The "dream team" from Utut Adianto chess school will challenge FIDE Masters team comprising Kasmiran, Irwanto, Maksum Firdaus and Sukirman Teddy on Monday and Tuesday in a series of warm-up matches ahead of the Merdeka Cup in Kuala Lumpur.

The warm-up will use the Scheveningen system. The "dream tam", comprising National Master (NM) Susanto Megaranto, 13, NM Taufik Halay, 13, Indonesian Chess Association (Percasi) Master (PM) Tirta Chandra, 14 and PM Andrean Susilodinata, 10, will play head-to-head with their seniors in four matches. Each is given 90 minutes to study their moves.

Percasi spokesman Kristianus Liem said on Sunday the matches would be held at the school at Jl. Siliwangi 15 in East Bekasi. Kristianus, also the team manager, said everyone was invited to watch the matches free of charge.

He said he would accompany the boys to Kuala Lumpur. The team leaves on Thursday. The Cup will be held from Sept. 1 to Sept. 3. (ivy)
