Bowlers need aid for equipment

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Bowling Association (PBI) has requested the National Sports Council (KONI) contribute Rp 42 million (US$6,000) for bowling balls and shoes for 12 bowlers preparing for the 20th Southeast Asian Games.

National team coach Jimmy Lim said on Tuesday the items were needed to replace old ones which were unsuitable for the biennial event in Brunei Darussalam next month.

"We asked for Rp 3.5 million for each person to buy shoes and balls. That's the cheapest price we can submit. We usually have to change the ball every 20 days for the most effective performance," he said.

Meanwhile, SEA Games bowlers Ryan Leonard Lalisang and Putty Insavilla Armein each finished in 23rd place in the Asian Junior Bowling Championship held from July 19 to July 24, he said.

There were 60 participants in the men's individual competition and 40 in the women's, Jimmy said. (ivy)
