Bosowa opens rice field

JAKARTA (JP): PT Bosowa's 1,000 hectares of rice fields in the Wawaotobi district of Southeast Sulawesi will yield their first harvest early next year, a company executive said over the weekend.

Nurham said the area, which will be developed in cooperation with local farmers under a profit sharing scheme, would be planted with a higher yielding variety of the crop.

"We are convinced that we will harvest rice of good quality," he was quoted as saying by Antara in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi.

The head of the provincial office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Manggo Yosman, said that the joint operation program in the agribusiness sector between big companies and local farmers was vital to improve the economy of the province. (udi)
