Borobudur to host 50,000 Buddhists

SEMARANG, Central Java: About 50,000 people will attend the
commemoration of Buddha's Day of Enlightenment on May 30 in the
ancient Borobudur temple in Magelang, an official predicted on
Thursday, Antara reported.

Heru Budi Santoso of the Ministry of Religious Affairs here
said minister Malik A. Fadjar would also attend the occasion.

Buddhists across the world are to commemorate the birth, death
and enlightenment of the founder of Buddhism, Siddhartha Gautama.

Heru said local Buddhists would also clean up the Giri Tunggal
Heroes Cemetery here on May 16. On May 27 through May 30,
organizers would also provide health services to communities near
Borobudur temple. (aan)
