Books on Betawi arts

JAKARTA (JP): The city administration is to launch three books
on Betawi (native Jakartan) arts and artists, Azhari Baedlawie,
head of the city culture office, said on Tuesday.

Azhari said the books would be launched by Governor Sutiyoso
in conjunction with the opening of an exhibition of Nina Sapoetra
paintings at Cempaka Hotel in Central Jakarta on Friday night.

The three books, written by culture reporters in cooperation
with the city culture office, are entitled H. Benyamin S: An All-
Round Artist, Ismail Marzuki: Fighter Composer and Betawi Arts
and Culture Drives an Era, Antara reported.

Azhari said the books were intended mainly to honor Betawi
artists. "Don't just forget those who have done a lot to promote
the country," he said.

He said the books would enrich the material available on
Betawi arts. (hhr)
