Bombing suspects withdraw lawsuit

JAKARTA: Some 13 bombing suspects withdrew on Thursday their lawsuit against Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Sofjan Jacoeb at the South Jakarta District Court.

The plaintiffs decided to withdraw the suit to instead seek a peaceful out of court settlement with the police, their lawyer, Martinus Amin, said.

They had filed a suit against Sofjan after the he accused them of being connected with terrorists during a press conference some time in September.

The 13 suspects were arrested by the police in Pandeglang, West Java for their alleged involvement in a series of bombings in the city, including Plaza Atrium in Central Jakarta and St. Anna church in East Jakarta last year.

"We expect the police to suspend the investigation into my clients and release them soon," he told The Jakarta Post.

Sofjan's lawyer, Adj.Comr.Barnabas Iman Setiyono, refused to comment on the issue.--JP
