Bomb threat hits IBRA office

JAKARTA (JP): A bomb threat led to the evacuation of the office of the Indonesian Banking Restructuring Agency (IBRA) in the Danamon Aetna building on Monday.

A police officer said the threat was received by phone by one of IBRA's officials at about 2 p.m. The official reported the threat to the building's management.

IBRA office occupies the 26th floor through to the top floor of the 32-story building on Jl. Sudirman, South Jakarta.

One of the building's security guards reported the threat to police and asked for assistance from the Gegana bomb squad.

Members of the squad subsequently combed the area after instructing occupants of the upper six floors to calmly evacuate the building.

"I didn't know what was happening but suddenly we were all ordered to get out of the office and the building," Andre, an IBRA official said, adding that a friend told him later about the bomb threat.

After two hours, the building was declared safe.

"We have combed the building but we did not find any suspicious things," a Gegana police office said at about 5 p.m. (emf)
