Bogus policemen raid a house

JAKARTA: Four people, claimed to be policemen, knocked on the door of a house in Cilandak Bawah, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, at about 3 a.m. on Thursday and told the house occupants they had a warrant to search the house.

The four told Aji Suseno, 24, and other family members to step out of the house during the "search". They fled shortly afterwards in a Kijang minivan with police plate number B 8922 QM.

The house occupants found they had lost Rp 1 million (US$117) in cash and two cellular phones.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Prasetyo called on the public not to hesitant to request anyone calling themselves policemen to produce their badges and warrants.

"If they (the persons) cannot show any IDs, then, they should immediately call the police," Prasetyo said. -- JP
