Bogus policeman nabbed in Jambi city

JAMBI, Jambi: Jambi Police arrested on Saturday a man accused of posing as a member of the police elite antiterror detachment. The case began when the man, Daniel Manurung, arrived on Wednesday in Jambi city from North Sumatra and met with two workers of local non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Yudi Atan and Amin.

Daniel told the two that the local NGOs should support a project being carried out by a gas transportation company in the city. But, the two activists were not convinced by what Daniel was saying and reported him to the police on Friday. Jambi Police officers then tracked him down and placed him under police custody after he failed to show a police ID to investigators.

"The police are investigating the case," said chief of Jambi Police Sr. Comr. Burhanuddin Lubis on Saturday. -- JP
