Bogus police seize two motorcycles

JAKARTA: Seven men, claiming to be police officers, took two motorcycles by force from two motorcyclists passing Jl. Permata Hijau, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, on Sunday at around 2:30 a.m.

A police report said that Lukman Agil, 23, a resident of Tomang in West Jakarta, was riding a Suzuki Shogun while Yongky Sugianto, 24, who lives in Kemandoran, South Jakarta, was riding a Suzuki Satria, when the seven men in a silver Toyota Kijang van cornered them.

Several of the men got out of the car and told the victims that they were detectives with Kebayoran Lama Police station. They claimed they had been searching for motorcycle robbers and forced the two to hand over their motorcycles. The robbers also took a Nokia cell phone and Rp 400,000 (US$43) in cash. The victims said they carried guns.

The police are still investigating the case. -- JP
