Bogor woman electrocuted

BOGOR (JP): A 55-year-old plantation worker was electrocuted on Thursday when she touched an electrified gate by mistake in Kranggan Puspasari village, Citeureup subdistrict, here on Thursday morning.

Nemah and her friend Mak Nib were entering a chili plantation when both of them touched the electrified gate. The electric gate is intended to protect the plantation from thieves at night.

Nemah died instantly, but Mak Nib survived the incident. Reports said Syamsul, the plantation manager, forgot to turn off the electric current to the gate.

Plantation workers rushed the two victims to Bogor PMI Hospital. News of the incident infuriated residents who later torched a hut in the chili plantation.

Afraid of a possible attack by the angry crowds, Samsul sought refuge at the Citeureup Police station.

"We haven't heard of him (Syamsul) until now. We don't know whether he wants to take responsibility for the incident," Hadi Jaya, 44, a relative of Nemah, said. The case is being handled by police. (21/edt)
