Bogor to use garbage incinerator

BOGOR: Bogor will incinerate its garbage and the resultant ash will be used to make concrete bricks.

Bogor's Park and Sanitation Agency chief, Dody Rosadi, said that such a facility that had also been applied in Tangerang, Banten province, would also reduce environmental damage.

Dody said that the facility would need an investment of Rp 5.7 billion for the purchase of an incinerator and to construct a building to accommodate the incinerator in Paledang.

He said Rp 1.5 billion of the total funds would be provided by the city municipal council and the rest by private investors.

According to him, the council will also build other facilities, but their location was still undecided.

"With such a facility, the municipal council is expected to reduce the operational cost of handling garbage, which reaches up to Rp 3 billion each year.

The incinerator, he said, would be able to incinerate some 250 cubic meters of trash per day. The city's daily garbage output reaches 1,400 cubic meters. --JP
