Bogor to move against soft porn
BOGOR (JP): Bogor Mayor Eddy Gunardi has ordered the removal of all posters advertising soft porn films at local movie theaters and has directed law enforcement officials to clear the streets of prostitutes and transvestites.
Eddy's instructions were made yesterday after he received written requests from students at Bogor's Institute of Agriculture (IPB).
"We'll conduct both operations continuously. We will sanction any misbehaving cinema operators who put up their porn posters again," the mayor was quoted as saying by mayoralty spokesman Anas S. Rasmana.
Early yesterday, 26 IPB students protested in front of the Bogor mayoralty office, demanding authorities to haul down soft porn film posters and wage a campaign against prostitution.
The students, wearing their university uniforms, carried no banners or placards.
The peaceful rally started at 10:30 a.m.
"We want the mayoralty to move against pornography and prostitution in this city during the holy month of Ramadhan," said Agus Purwoko, the group's spokesman.
"We have seen with our own eyes that there are still many prostitutes and transvestites offering sex services in front of our campus and in front of the mayor's office," he added. (24/bsr)
