Bogor park sees holiday surge

BOGOR: Over 10,000 people visited the Bogor Botanical Park in the first three hours after it opened at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, the country's Independence Day.

"Visitors kept coming through the park's four entrances," park official Sumarno was quoted as saying by Antara, adding that the total number of visitors would not be known until after the park closed at 5 p.m.

Although the park management did not arrange any special activities to celebrate the holiday, visitors took the initiative to put on a variety of games and competitions, including sack races.

Ropes were used to separate groups in order to avoid disputes over picnic spots.

Sumarno said the park normally saw up to 30,000 visitors on holidays and a minimum of 4,000 visitors on regular days. -- JP
