Bogor markets being moved out of CBD

BOGOR (JP): The mayoralty has started relocating some modern and traditional markets and warehouses to the city's outskirts in a bid to reduce downtown traffic congestion, an official said.

The first assistant to Bogor's mayor, Eddiyana, said Wednesday the relocation plan, expected to be completed in 2005, was also designed to provide better marketplaces for people living in the outskirts.

He provided no further details about the relocation plan, including the various stages needed for such a move and new sites.

The head of Bogor Development Planning Board, Deddy S. Hamdan, said the relocation would be carried out gradually.

At least 30 percent of the city's warehouses have been moved to Kedungbadak village, he said. (24/cst)
