Bogor man mobbed to death

JAKARTA (JP): A 37-year-old man was mobbed to death by 20 people in an early Friday morning brawl in Kayumanis area in Matraman, East Jakarta, an officer said.

Jakarta Police spokesman Lt. Col. Zainuri Lubis identified the victim as Gerinus Uluk Ayanan from Sindang Karya area in Sukamaju Baru, Cimanggis subdistrict, Bogor.

"His head was nearly spilt open. He was also stabbed several times until he died," Zainuri said.

"The brawl was apparently personal. The 20 people wanted revenge against Gerinus. It's still not clear what the brawl was all about."

At least 13 of the crowd were detained at city police headquarters, including the mob's leader, identified as Nasir Said.

East Jakarta Police chief of detectives Capt. Alex Mandalika could not be reached for further comment. (ylt)
