Bogor celebrates 514th birthday

BOGOR, West Java (JP): The Bogor township celebrated its 514th anniversary on Monday with a parade from the council to the Bogor Botanical Gardens. It featured various cultural traditions.

June 3 was the date the king of the West Java Pajajaran kingdom, Prabu Siliwangi, inaugurated the town in 1482.

Mayor Eddy Gunardi said this year's theme is discipline, which should characterize all activities, he said.

Despite Bogor's various awards, Eddy also reminded residents of the hardships the town has endured. These include the recent flood which killed four Kedung Badak villagers, and the fire at the Kebon Kembang market which killed 10 young Ramayana department store employees. (21/anr)
