Bogor bus fare set to increase

BOGOR: Although the government has not yet officially announced a rise in fuel prices, the Bogor Land Transportation Owners' Organization (Organda) proposed on Wednesday a hike in public bus fares from Rp 800 to Rp 1,000.

Bogor's Organda chief Chotib Malik said on Tuesday that the municipality had given the green light for the hike, although the local council had yet to approve it.

He said that Organda during a meeting with the municipality's land transportation agency (DLLAJ) had proposed an increase in the bus fare from Rp 800 to Rp 1,000 if the government decided to raise fuel prices later this month.

Chotib said that the government should make it clear whether it was going to increase fuel prices or not. "The government is dithering about the plan. As a result, the public are being victimized by speculators," he said. --JP
