Bogor asked to act on prostitution

Activists from the Muslim-based Justice Party (PK) gathered at the Bogor administration office on Monday, demanding that the administration rid the city of all prostitution spots and porno VCDs before the Muslim fasting month of Ramadhan begins later this month.

"As we'll soon enter the fasting month of Ramadhan, we'll continue to remind the government on the need to crack down on prostitution and pornography throughout the city," said Ani Sumarni, chief of the PK women's affairs department.

She said that in their initial steps they asked the local government to focus on pornography, which she claims was growing rapidly in the city. She cited, as an example, a porn VCD of two Bandung students which has been a hot seller recently.

"Due to the increase of porn VCDs, many women and children had become targets of sexual crimes," she concluded.

Suhud Ahyadi, a senior official in Bogor, who received the activists in his office, explained that his administration would soon crack down on suspected prostitution locations and the porn VCD industry. --JP
