Bogor administration donates books

BOGOR: The Bogor administration has donated books worth Rp 3.9 billion to about 48,000 underprivileged pupils attending elementary schools in Bogor.

The chairman of the Bogor education agency, Edi Junaedi, said on Friday that those 48,000 were part of the 450,000 pupils enrolled at 1,618 elementary schools in Bogor.

He said the students could only read the books at school and were prohibited from taking them home. The books would be passed on later to next year's students.

He said that the administration provided them as the central government had not made any book donations over the past three years due to a lack of funds.

The city wants to provide enough books for all students, but it lacks the funds to do so, he said. It needs some Rp 30 billion to donate books to all the students in Bogor.

Some of the subjects include social sciences, mathematical and natural sciences, Indonesian language and vocational books.--JP
