Bogor administration buildings illegal

BOGOR: The Bogor regency council building and the official residence of the Bogor regent are among dozens of houses belonging to the administration that were built without permits.

A Bogor official, Heri Haeruman, admitted that only 10 of 40 administration-owned buildings in Cibinong had building permits (IMB).

Heri, who is in charge of regional assets, said that the efforts to apply for the permits were often hampered by the unclear status of the land.

The other "illegal" buildings are the regency office and the subdistrict offices.

"We will be ashamed if this comes under public scrutiny, especially because the offices were built in 1994," he said, adding that he was determined to process the application for the permits this year.

Meanwhile, a councillor, Rahmat Yasin, criticized the administration. "The administration should be a model for the people in obeying the law, and not just ignore it." --JP
