Body parts of victims to be cremated
DENPASAR, Bali: The body parts of the victims of the Bali bombing are scheduled to be cremated at Mumbul cemetery, Nusa Dua, on Saturday and their ashes will be released at Sanur beach.
"There are 169 bags of unidentified body parts to be cremated at 10 a.m.," head of Sanglah Hospital forensic laboratory Made Maker said on Friday.
Of the 169 bags, 84 contained samples of body parts taken for DNA identification.
On Friday, the Balinese community ran an Atur Piuning ceremony at Mumbul, some 25 kilometers south of Denpasar, to ask for acceptance from God.
The government had said earlier that the body parts would be buried, not cremated, on March 1.
At least 2002 people were killed when two powerful bombs ripped through two popular nightclubs in Kuta last Oct. 12, the biggest attack since Sept. 11, 2001, when terrorists turned commercial planes into deadly flying bombs that killed over 3,000 innocent people in New York and Washington. --JP
