Body parts found in floodgate

JAKARTA (JP): Three separate body parts from an adult male were discovered by a Manggarai floodgate watcher on Jl. Tambak in South Jakarta on Sunday afternoon.

Menteng Police chief Capt. Paulus Water Pau said the right hand, left leg and the lower portion of the abdomen were found floating in the waters of the floodgate.

Officer Paulus suspects the man was victim of a vicious murder.

"There is only a portion of the male genitalia found on the abdomen. We are searching for the rest of the man. The left foot itself has its two toes missing," he said.

The discoveries were first reported by the floodgate watcher, Soeharjo, 37. The abdomen was found first, followed by the left leg and then the right hand.

A witness, Ujang, said that the body parts were slightly decomposed.

All of the body parts have been sent to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Usually, the hospital allows people with missing relatives to view the body parts to determine if they could be their missing relative. (ylt)
