BNI scholarships for 100 students

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: The local branch of Bank BNI has provided scholarships to 100 students of the Darussalam Pesantren (Moslem boarding school).

Each of the santri (students) has received Rp 600,000 (approximately US$ 272) for a year. The bank's spokesman, Bud Erwin, told Antara yesterday the students are all high achievers who come from poor families.

He also said the scholarship funds were raised by employees from bank branches all across the country.

"We plan to select 100 boarding schools from throughout Indonesia and give them scholarships too," Erwin said. (swe)
