BNI assists two banks
JAKARTA (JP): Bank Indonesia, the central bank, announced yesterday that it had appointed state-owned Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) to extend technical and management assistance to privately- owned PT Bank Yama and PT Bank Pacific.
"Based on the results of Bank Indonesia's assessment, Bank Yama and Bank Pacific need technical and management assistance from another bank in order to improve their management and operation," the central banks said in a statement, which was made available yesterday.
After the entrance of BNI, the two banks are expected to operate more professionally and have a better competitive edge so that the people's trust in the two banks can be restored, the statement said.
Bank Indonesia yesterday also announced that another "trouble- hit" bank, PT Bank Yakin Makmur, overhauled its board of directors at its extraordinary shareholder meeting yesterday. (rid)
