BMW's desert storm

CAIRO: BMW'S first Egyptian-assembled car rolled off the assembly line last week.

The car, a 523i, was built at the company's only Middle Eastern plant, just outside the Egyptian capital of Cairo.

BMW chairman Bernd Pischetsrieder drove the completely knocked down car off the assembly line at the Sixth of October City plant. Production started in May.

BMW Egypt also hopes to produce 3-Series cars from completely knocked down kits from next year.
