Bloody soccer game

BANJARNEGARA, Central Java: A friendly game of soccer between local youth groups turned into a nasty brawl which left two people seriously injured and two others in police custody on Sunday.

Police chief Bambang Munarso of Banyumas regency told The Jakarta Post that the game at Krido Honggo field got off to a bad start when supporters started heckling one another. Minutes later supporters Koneng (21) and Tisno (20) attacked opposition supporters Darsono (18) and Mujeni (30) with machetes.

"Please control your emotions, don't be provoked so easily, and don't say things which may hurt other people," Munarso pleaded to youths. (wah/swe)
