Black boxes for cars
WASHINGTON: Black box recording devices are well known in the airline industry.
But the United States National Transportation Safety Board has recommended that similar devices be installed in all U.S. cars to record and store information about car accidents and air bag deployments.
The board hopes that by being able to retrieve data after an accident, U.S. carmakers can design better air bags for both large and small cars.
Deploying air bags in the U.S. have been blamed for killing 40 children and 27 adults in accidents they should have survived.
