Birth control program a success

JAKARTA (JP): The family planning programs carried out by the Jakarta administration have prevented more than three million births in the last 26 years.

City Hall Spokesman, Soesila Darmoadji, said yesterday Jakarta's population would have reached 14,279,072 this year, if birth control programs had failed.

"By mid year Jakarta will house 10,215,762 people, thanks to the family planning programs," he said.

The success of birth control programs means less spending on education, food health and manpower sectors, he said. (sur)
